The Story Behind Versa XC: Engineering Meets Art
We’ve received many questions about the origin of Versa XC, so today, we’re diving deep into its story. The big question seems to be: Is Versa XC a design project or an engineering project? It’s a bit of both, but at its core, Versa XC is an engineering project.
The Inspiration
One of the initial inspirations was a Leica lens hood. Its rectangular shape, curved angles, and the way it elegantly frames the lens captivated me. Leica lenses, in my opinion, are works of art. Yet, they are also engineering icons—tools that enable creativity. This idea, a beautifully engineered tool, stuck with me for years.
Another source of inspiration was a caliper. I’ve always been fascinated by tools for their precision, purpose, and functionality. The analog simplicity, the clean design, and the precision of a caliper have always intrigued me. I began to wonder: What if this tool was reimagined? What if it were made from titanium, given unique finishes, and treated like a piece of art?
What if we created a platform like a motorcycle helmet, that is as much a tool of safety and functionality as it is a platform for creative expression? These questions became the foundation of Versa XC.

Engineering the Perfect Canvas
Versa XC evolved from these inspirations into a full-fledged engineering project. The goal was to create a tool that serves multiple purposes while maintaining a forward-thinking design. Here’s what it needed to achieve:
- Material Excellence: Grade 5 titanium for its strength and lightweight properties.
- Tried and True: Time has to be of no question. Swiss accuracy, legacy, and dependability.
- Water Resistance: 20 ATM, so it’s ready for any adventure.
- Slim Design: Less than 11mm thick—no more oversized, bulky timepieces that don’t fit under a jacket sleeve.
- Quick Glanze time reading: Simplified, quadrant, easy-to-read dial design.
- Customization Potential: A versatile platform, assembled and customized here in the U.S.A.
Modularity and Creative Freedom
Up next – a simplified modular design construction. Versa XC is designed to of the highest tolerances, but also ease of assembly. We knew from the beginning that we had to be able to assemble and customize in the USA, and that anything we can do to help simplify that process should be done.
Its flat, “layered” construction and surfaces open endless possibilities. For instance, the top rings can be crafted from various materials—titanium, bronze, solid gold, forged carbon, or Damascus steel, each offering a unique character and canvas. They can be engraved, coated, or distressed to take each material or expression further. Versa XC becomes a blank canvas, ready to be transformed. From baseline models to highly customized versions, the possibilities are truly endless.
Versa XC is more than just a multisport tool watch; it’s a platform for creativity and a dedication to engineering, design, and creating tools that inspire action.
